Packing Tips for College Students

Blog | 05.01.2024

What a semester it’s been! Final exams will be over before you know it! Be sure to think ahead when packing your dorm room or apartment. Check out some packing tips as you prepare to move home for the summer!

1. Be sustainable!
Using reusable storage containers and totes will help guarantee that your belongings will be transported safely to your abode for the summer. By using these items to pack your clothes and room items it will help you make the most of the space you have. Plus, using reusable storage pieces is sustainable, which we are all about at The Woods!

2. Categorize and use labels
It may not seem like it at first, but categorizing your clothes, shoes, study items, etc., will help you when it’s time to unpack at home. A label maker could also be a great investment when packing your room up to move back home for the summer.

3. Clean before packing
Washing your clothes, bed sheets and more will only help with the entire process once you’re moved back home for the summer. By cleaning your belongings before packing, you’re eliminating a step when it comes time to unpack.

4. Work smarter, not harder
Be sure you’re making the most of your space when packing. If one item doesn’t fit a certain way, try another! Packing your belongings efficiently will help eliminate items being thrown around, falling or getting damaged when in transit.

5. Don’t wait until the last minute
Studying for finals is very important. If you need a study break, make the most of your time. Taking 15-20 minutes each day to accomplish some packing will help alleviate stress as you try to check out for the summer!
